On Wednesday, November 30, in Paris, Kazakhstan Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov signed a special agreement with the French government ‘On the implementation of cooperation in the fight against global warming’, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reports.

One of the points of this document is the construction of a 1 GW wind farm with a 300-600 MWh energy storage system in Zhambyl oblast (in the village of Mirny). The project will be realised by Total Eren and Samruk-Kazyna JSC.

‘The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by at least 2 million tonnes annually and provides for Kazakh content,’ the report said.

For the operation and development of renewable energy sources (RES) in Kazakhstan, a corresponding competence centre will also be created.
